From Blindness to Beauty

Blindness has been our greatest problem. We are blind beggars sitting at the gate of the miraculous, huddled beneath a garment of despondency, unable to even move in a direction of decency (cf. Mark 10:46).

There is great uncertainty when you are blind, but the uncertainty turns to insanity when you ARE truly blind, but THINK you can see. God has a hard time "getting through" to us, not because we are blind, but because we are blind, but think we see. God's spiritual rescue mission in His Son is not only to heal our sight, but to rescue us from our insanity and obstinacy in thinking we can see, when we can't (cf. John 9:41).

The good news with us, however, is that there is One Who CAN see, always sees, sees clearly, sees truthfully and sees beautifully. And this One Who SEES, sees within us. He is the Light that is eternally shinning within.

"In him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it." ~John 1:4‭-‬5 NRSV

Our blindness will be lifted. Light is shinning in the darkness and, the last I checked, light overcomes darkness, but ONLY ALWAYS! Our human souls are not personal caves for exhausting exploration; they are an endless horizon over which God's “Son-Rise” is destined to shine.

Spirituality is a journey out of darkness and into this unimaginable Light. There is no option here: because the One Who is the Light of the world is lighting up the universe. Your personal darkness has an expiration date, as does the blindness of the nations and the night of your soul. Even right now, your spirit witnesses this to you, even though it may only seem like an unattainable dream.

Spiritual awakening is not just some feel-good vibes about morality, virtue or social justice. It is waking the heart up out of what seems like an eternal nightmare. It means opening the blinds and curtains of our logical and opinionated minds in order to let the Light of Christ replace our darkness by opening the eyes of our spirit.

Spirituality is about SEEING -- really SEEING. It’s a seeing of God's Face that is so authentic, so clear and so truthful that everything inside us aligns with His eternal freedom. His is a freedom we never could dream actually exists. But it does. And it’s calling you out of your blind beggar clothes into a garment of Light.

Our blindness is not inherent to us; it was sown in us by an enemy who is malicious in intent, determined in purpose and unrelenting in his insidious plan to keep us deceived. And because our blindness is not native to our birthright as sons of God, it will be challenged by our heart at the point in our life where we become fed up and tired of living a nightmare that doesn’t belong to us.

We all need to wake up and SEE. It's not that we don’t see: its that we “see” too much – too much of what has no substance, no heart, no depth, no light or no power. It’s that our “seeing” itself has become our blindness! AND WHEN our very seeing is darkness, how great the darkness we become!

There is a law in our spirit that works like this: we become what we look at -- and until we see differently and see better things, this self-fulfilling prophecy of becoming the vanity we see is the inevitable forecast of an insane world.

In a very real sense, our need to SEE, is a need to overcome our societal insanity. God's Light not only frees us from darkness, it also restores our inherent clarity of spirit with which we discern what’s real, intuit what us true and understand what is good.

The reason we don’t see so clearly, the reason why we are blinded, is not a lack of searching for Truth, but a lack of believing we are Loved. Love is the truth we lack. And when we believe in God’s love for us, His truth and our truth become the same thing.

Love is what lifts our darkness and opens our eyes. Love is the truth of God's Being and the beauty of our being.

God wants to deliver us from a blinded mind through a heart awakened by love. When that happens to us, our days of blindness and begging are over. The vestiges of our darkness are cast aside as we rise to follow the Light of the world.

God replaces our blindness with beauty.
